The renovation of the Chateau Montgommery

In 1711, the chateau Montgommery changed hands and was no longer the home of that illustrious family. Over the centuries, various owners failed to maintain the property, often only staying in it a few weeks of the year.

In 1920, the chateau came up for sale once more. The local Ducey council wanted to buy the property but for financial reasons the company Mabit et Jardin bought the chateau instead and installed a cider brewery in its grounds. The chateau itself was used as offices for the company, a measure that did no good for the chateau’s historic décor.

In 1968, the brewery closed and the property was up for sale once more. The local council once more took great interest in this opportunity to create a tourist attraction in Ducey but the costs of demolishing the Brewery made the project extremely expensive. And so for years, the inhabitants of Ducey grew used to the site of the decaying brewery and the neglected Chateau.
