In
1711, the chateau Montgommery changed hands and was no longer
the home of that illustrious family. Over the centuries, various
owners failed to maintain the property, often only staying in
it a few weeks of the year.
In 1920, the chateau came up for sale once more. The local Ducey
council wanted to buy the property but for financial reasons
the company Mabit et Jardin bought the chateau instead and installed
a cider brewery in its grounds. The chateau itself was used
as offices for the company, a measure that did no good for the
chateau’s historic décor.
